The Endocannabinoid-System

Herbal Cannabinoids such as CBD have an effect on our body because their uptake and “work-place” is a system within our body that interacts with these substances: The Endocannabinoid-System.
The endogenous Endocannabinoid-System is one of the most important physiologic systems involved in human health. The brain, vital organs, immune cells, and even connective tissue contain Endocannabinoid-Receptors, which are tasked with maintaining the stability of our body’s internal processes.

Various research results have shown that CBD and the human Endocannabinoid- System react positively with each other. The human body can also produce certain Cannabinoids independently. The Endocannabinoid-System has two receptors that interact with Cannabinoids: The CB1-Receptors and CB2-Receptors.

The Cannabinoid receptor CB1 is mainly located in nerve cells, most commonly found in the cerebellum, but also found in the peripheral nervous system (e.g. in the intestine). The CB1-Receptors in the brain are concerned with coordination, movement, pain, emotions, mood, thinking, appetite and memory.

In contrast, the Cannabinoid receptors CB2 of the Endocannabinoid-System are predominantly located on cells of the immune system and influence inflammation and pain. All Cannabinoids, including CBD, can naturally bind to certain Cannabinoid-Receptors in the body for their effects to unfold.
Although research on the Endocannabinoid-System is still in its infancy, science has continued to find out that Cannabinoids can also act on other receptors and thus being able to initiate a variety of health-supporting processes.
